What to Do with Old Magazines

After you've read a magazine, chances are high that you place it on a stack or a bookshelf for safe-keeping. However, after a year or more, the stack of magazines can grow higher and higher. If you and your family have already read these issues, these items can take up much-needed space. Instead of throwing them away, there are more productive things a person can do with old magazine issues. The following are just some of the many options a person has when it comes to putting their old issues to good use.

One of the best things to use these issues for are art projects. You can do everything from cut out the images to decoupage on a box, bookcase, or filing cabinet to using the cut out images to make a collage. This way, you can exercise your creative side and do everything from make a gift to make a card that is sure to be remembered. Kids especially enjoy cutting out the images from magazines for art projects, so always check with your kids before you decide to get rid of old issues you don't plan on rereading or using.

Another great thing to use old magazines for is to give them to local businesses or local libraries. These places often use magazines for their patrons but may not have as many as they'd like. If you have magazines a doctor's office or library lacks, they may take you up on your offer and use them for their waiting rooms and for their collections. This way, you can be sure the magazines will be used by other people and put to good use.

Lastly, think about doing some good and donating old magazines to women's and homeless shelters and to other non-profits. Any number of organizations can put these magazines to good use. These places are often strapped for cash, so any help you can give will be much appreciated. Similarly, consider dropping off the magazines in a place like Goodwill or the Salvation Army. These organizations will resell the items at a discounted price and use the funds to donate to those who most need it. Thus, you will put your old magazines to good use rather than throwing them away and cluttering up the landfills.
